Signing up to an annual maintenance plan for your tower cranes means guaranteeing their productivity and efficiency, and avoiding expensive machine shutdowns or dangerous faults.

Always attentive to costs and to stringent compliance with safety regulations, solid companies like INSO SpA have no doubts when it comes to allocating resources to periodic maintenance for their fleet. For this reason, INSO has chosen Imola Gru for the maintenance of their cranes positioned in their important Algerian construction site Laghouat, 450km from Algiers.

In the last few weeks, the first of 4 maintenance appointments, envisaged as part of Imola Gru’s annual assistance plans, has been carried out. The operations involved the 3 tower cranes present on the site, all made by Potain: one SP 65A, one SP 95A and one MD 125B.

These are cranes that must cope with numerous hours of work, meaning that they need to be kept in top condition for efficiency. Imola Gru carries out maintenance visits that include inspections, tests and lubrication of the crane’s main mechanisms and safety systems. We complete a detailed checklist that includes over 30 items for inspection at every visit.

In particular, the visits involve:

  • inspection of the integrity of the metalwork and the correct assembly of the machine (walkways, hatches, fall arresters, guardrails)
  • inspection of the presence and integrity of the machine’s identification plates
  • inspection of the functioning and settings of all the crane’s safety systems (limiters and limit switches)
  • inspection of the tightness of the bolts in the metalwork and the slewing ring
  • inspection, testing and lubrication of the lifting winches and the carriage
  • inspection, testing and lubrication of the cables (lifting, guardrails and distribution)
  • inspection of the components of the electrical panel
  • inspection of the functioning and safety of the control panel and cable driven manipulator (or cabin)
  • inspection of the integrity of the ballast blocks

Following every visit, the Imola Gru technicians issue a report with the results of the tests conducted and update the machine’s audit log.
