An extraordinary maintenance intervention for the rotation of a Grove GMK 5220 was recently completed, which saw the two production coordinators for the Imola Gru Workshop and Lifting departments hard at work: Roberto Bianconcini and Mirco Minoccheri.
The Imola Gru technicians carried out the operation under the supervision of a Crane Care operator directly from the Manitowoc offices in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
A new procedure was followed for this operation, patented by the specialised staff at Imola Gru, which involves the removal of the entire 34-tonne superstructure with one single lift.
The result was excellent, and in fact reduced the initial predicted length of the machine shutdown by three days.
The operation, which started as a periodic inspection and maintenance visit for the machine, led to the substitution of the slewing ring screws and software adjustments for the ballast mechanism and the working angle detection, among other things.
Everything was carried out with certified equipment and fully complying with fundamental safety requirements.
